Question

Is it out yet?

Is it any good?

Is it better than the demo I have, as to be honest I thought that was utter crap - A lap round brands in a Proton then a race in a lexus.

Cheers

Yes I have, I will order a DPW just as soon as I find someone who is happy to fit it at a reasonable cost.

Then its time for a re-map.

I have TOCA, and there are a lot of issues with it. Use of a steering wheel needs a lot of sorting, and when it is not rebooting my PC the cars go backwards when you engage first and end up stuck to the barrier. That form of racing is a new one on me.

There are also problems with the sound.

When it does work it's reasonable fun, though the handling is a little odd. When braking you go from no steering to an ability to pivot arounf a corner from virtually any speed.

I understand a patch is on the way.

Think I'll wait for the patch before I bother getting this one then

Played the demo and thought it was too easy - are there difficulty levels in the game, or is it all based on a career mode where you stand no chance to start with because of a crap car, ending up with a top team that beats everyone?

Cool

Suppose its OK for juveniles and brain donors to play. Those who need a story to play a "racing" game should be shot IMO. It's simply the biggest pile of dog poo out. Cough, I only know this cos my kid brother plays it The car slides about like its on castors and it uses the physics model taken from a broken Tesco trolly

Get a mans drivin game like GPL or GT2002 (for the heathens amongst us this is 'NOT' the crappy sega console GT2K" btw)

Edited to be kind to the people who have wasted hard cash on this turkey, hehe.

Davyboy, Its a mod (modification) for the F1 2002 game, the dl is 275 meg I think, with a 50 meg patch but hey its free.

Try these links:

http://f1hq.racesimcentral.com/site/page.php?pagina=1.php&titel=t1
http://www.gtr.kickassgamers.com/
http://www.gtr.kickassgamers.com/list.php?cat=main&type=art
http://www.bhmotorsports.com/

And if you are in any doubt about the physics model check Doug Aranos PDF guide to the model here, under Tips & Guides:

http://gearbox.mart-in.com/

Having played this game for a few months now, both off, but mainly online with a load of m8's from one of the IRC chans set up for it, I must say it is the best racing game out, full stop, up there with GPL for the physics model. The car models, sounds and physics are just the bizz.

Nope. I'm only using the onboard soundcard but this is the only thing that's every not sounded right. Even the actual F1 2002 game sounds ok. I'm thinking perhaps the cars are meant to sound a little rough and meaty? Still, I've been playing it so much I'm more than used to it by now
No where near good enough to race online yet, although when I am where do I start looking?

Well I suppose the sounds are a quite meaty, especially the Porche 966's

As far as online racing is concerned you can just use the Gamespy interface within the game but you would be far better using an IRC client and getting to know a few of the racers by name as it makes the races far more tense and worth while.

Most of them are quite young but they are top racers, one of the guys Gillish holds a quite few world level lap records @ www.findthelimit.com. Findthelimit uses the telemetary add on to give you a world ranking etc.

We usually have races on Wed and Sundays @ 8.30 GMT (not british summer time btw) and the races last for between 24 - 40 laps (usually 24.

Can your pedals use seperate axis rather than split axis as It makes quite a difference to your lap times being able to trail brake and throttle on at the same time. Another thing to bear in mind is that internet races wont allow you to use any sort of driver aids apart from clutch help, so best switch off all driver aids and get used to it

Try here to the IRC channel etc.
