Elite 4 is supposedly being worked on. Although what we really want is a online Elite set in the same game universe and being able to do our own deals, form our own factions, buy and run space stations etc etc etc

It is the dawn of the Thirtieth Century. The First Solar War has ended as chronicled in the game Starlancer, and the Four Houses of Humanity rule known space. Earth and the inhabitable worlds of its solar system are distant memories, mute reminders of humanity's appetite for self-destruction. Now, with the coming of the Age of Conquest, humanity has begun to focus its efforts towards expansion into the frontier worlds. Adventure, intrigue, and opportunity beckon you, the bold traveler, in an insanely epic and fascinating science-fiction universe appropriately titled - Freelancer. Freelancer promises to plunge you into a universe ruled by ruthless pirates, mercenary privateers, and fanatical missionaries. With its sophisticated 3D spaceflight system and real-time 3D character interaction, you will have complete control over buying and selling commodities, accepting missions for hire, customizing your spacecraft, or engaging in high-octane dogfights.

Up to 16 players over LAN or the Internet.

I've played the freelancer demo(including the patch that removes the 26K money limit) and the mulitplayer is'nt massive, just pretty much LAN based. Also you can't buy/own capital ships and space stations.

It also requires you to reach a certain level before you can buy certain weapons/ships. IMHO that's a bit restrictive as If I have the dough I should be able to buy millitary lasers(or whatever they're called) if I want to. It means the game is more linear than I would like(still going to buy it though)

Elite 4 has been all but canned I'm afriad, and David Braben has also asked Christian Pinder, the author of Elite:TNK to pull all TNK related stuff off the web. Christian is still working on Darkness Falls though.

You guys should really check out Star Wars Galaxies, its out in US on April 15th with space expansion due December, can order it from US.

You can play bounty hunters, wookie martial artists, a whole hog of stuff. Space combat will be very much real ala freelancer and you will be scrimping and saving to save for good ships and engaging in quite big inter-guild dog fights, not to mention be relying on friends to design and build your ships. Its gonna own

Anyone got past the mission where you have to fly through the asteroid and kill the shield generators. Tagashi's Arch or something ? Level 14 I think.

Keep getting mullered, must be doing something wrong....
