How do I convert .avi files to .mpg?

I've sent an .avi video clip to someone but they can only play the first 4 seconds then it stops. I'm viewing it ok using Windows Media player 9, is there any way of converting .avi into .mpg files?

Try looking on www.tucows.com
Lots of Freeware/Shareware to try.
Never tried converting to mpeg bug have an avi2vcd convertor.

try using vcdhelp.com
Prob easier to either download a divx player from downloads.com or getting the other person to download a copy of windows media player 9 as this can play avi type file.
