How do I Find Out My Computer Stats?
We are thinking of upgrading our computer. The processor, sound card and most important of all...
A new games card
The only thing is we've had the computer for a couple of years and I'm not exactly sure what we've got on the machine! I could try and find the various instruction books or I could I suppose work it out via the control panel. However I'm sure there must be a way I can access this information in a much simpler way....I just don't know how too.
When I've got this information maybe someone can help me decide what upgrades to make.
Thanks everyone

Get yourself a copy of CPU-z here. Its free and will give you information on the CPU and mainboard

Other than that, right-click My Computer on your desktop and click Properties for other hardware info. Its in the Device Manager.

First you need to find out the make and model of the motherboard you are using. Then with that in hand you need to find which CPUs are compatible with it. If the limit is low you'll need a new mobo to begin with.
Post it up and we can try to help.
The gfx card has to go

The most cost-effective way will be to buy a whole new system ( or the bits for ) Is your monitor ok ?
Really depends on how much you want to spend ... you can get a modern system from 250 - 2500

I'd suggest you invest in a new motherboard. The Gigabyte board you have only has a 2x AGP slot, so if its new games you're wanting to play then its not going to give full power from more modern graphics cards I'm afraid.
So a whole (gulp) new system you reckon then? The box is still good I suppose!
Anyone want to offer me a nice option/set-up for a family computer with a nice powerful games bias?
BTW Thanks very much for your help DJ Dunk really cleared a lot up for me.

I think you'll find the mobo in that package is the K7S5A which only support AGP 4x whereas the Radeon is 8x.
You'll also need a new PSU
Have a look at Arias systems.

They are not pics of my screen
I'm not so fortunate as to own a a Rage Pro
Anyway . . . Press Ctrl+Print Screen to save the current window to memory. Then start your favorite image package (something like Painsthop Pro) and choose Paste as New Image. Save the image and upload it to webspace.
