help with LAN please
#1
Got a pc on ntl broadband and a laptop connected via LAN crossover network cable etc.
used to have a 56k dial up connection that worked fine on the laptop via the LAN using Proxy+.
Now i've got broadband it does'nt work, i reinstalled proxy+ and IP addresses were different so I changed the LAN TCP/IP adrresses about inc default gateway, preffered DNS server and the LAN settings in the internet explorer properties on the laptop.
Thing is I don't know what i'm doing..LOL
Any ideas what (on the properties of the LAN on the laptop) the:
IP address:
Subnet mask:
Default gateway:
and
Preffered DNS server:
Should relate to?
also on Internet explorer on the laptop what connection settings do I use?
I played around and got it working yesterday, now today turned it on and it's not working.
For example I have 169.254.212.159 for my IP on the PC for the Proxy+ settings when using :4400 port
Any help appreciated as I'm just trying too hard I think
