Cool

So then, who can recommend a good router for a home solution to be connected up to broadband and have around 3 PC's hanging off it?

Anyone know the best/cheapest places to buy one?

Cheers
Neil

The Alcatel SpeedTouch 510 v4 is down to £99 from £137. Has a four port 10/100 switch built in.

I was selling a Linksys router that would do the job. Someone found them online for about £60.00

I'm using a Dlink DI614+ wireless router (in build Firewall NAT addressing).

www.ebuyer.com was cheaper than broadbandbuyer.

I've got this Linksys from Amazon.co.uk for £50. Can take up to 4 pc's and it's free postage.

Using it with an NTL cable modem but works with ADSL as well.

ScoobyJawa - I take it your broadband connection is cable modem (aka NTL) therefore you shouldn't get an ADSL router like for example the Speedtouch 510. What you need is a Cable/DSL router; these routers are designed to work with external modems.

Linksys do good cable/dsl routers, The Linksys Etherfast Firewall with VPN Endpoint is very good

I run NTL cable modem and have a 4 port Netgear RP114. It works a treat, and was under £50 from insight

My bandwith (600k) is shared between 4 PC's.

Hope this helps

Question

Hijack alert !
I'm considering an ADSL package soon, and wanting a wireless home network.
What's the choice I have available guys ?
Do I need both a wireless modem and a router or are there "all in one" jobs about ?
I have a desktop and laptop, so do I really need a USB adaptor for the desktop and a PCMIA card for the laptop or can I get away with using the USB wireless adaptor for the laptop too ??

You plug a standard network card into a wireless router and you'll need a wireless pcmcia card for the laptop. The new dlink 22mb/s ones are the best

Devil's u can send me an email to giles@broadbandbuyer.co.uk. I will go through several questions, which will help you identify the best solution for you.

Whacking a wireless router in your home doesn't mean you will get a good connection

Don't know how super_si managed to break his linksys so quick , but mine works like a dream , UPnP support enables XP Messenger with Webcam through it as well (see recent thread)

At £50 would def. recommend it, though depending on price the Netgear is prob. just as good.

Also I didn't need to setup the linksys. Plugged it in, plugged modem in to it, plugged PC into router and turned on router, modem and then PC.

It then worked!
