Help needed windows 2k problem.
#1
I know nothing about this lot, but can describe the problem in the hope that someone has experienced it before.
has baffled every microsoft experty I know.
Basically, have a small network at work, one server on NT and four desktop in win2K. We have a domain, and under that domain individual pc passwords and an admin setting and password.
Basically, the PC crashes reboots itself when logged in as anything other than the admin. It is stable until an application is run then it reboots itself without giving option to save or anything.
when logged in as administrator it runs any application fine with no problems.
Any ideas?

what applications are installed on the workstations?
what application causes the machine to crash when you run it? is it all applications?
Can you run notepad or calculator or any other win2k application - does the machine crash then?
Is it all machines?
are all machines the same? are they clones?
do all machines have unique computer name/ip address?
Can people log on and ping other machines?
Is the domain policy default? how is the domain configured?

Echo christian,
also if it is only one machine, log in as local admin;
delete all other user profiles, delete all files & subdirectories of default user, copy default user contents from known working pc.

Not getting a blue screen, it is rebooting not crashing hence no error message and nothing in the event log.
each machine has its own name and to my knowledge its own ip address too. can ping other machines.
dont know what you mean by clone, but one of the machines that is doing it has been set up using a ghost as it died prior to this, however another machine was freshly installed and created from scratch.
the applications that are causing it include things such as word, access, excel, and also a progarams written in dos.
it doesnt appear to be program specific, basically anything other than the windows startup screen is enough to make it reboot, but as I say not in administrator mode.
