Tried to order ADSL through Pipex and they are saying that the BT line test did not pass due to noise on the line.

Is there anuthing that can be done about this??

I suppose you could ask for it to be retested, but I don't think you'll have much luck. "Excessive noise" could either be due to a poor quality cable or poor signal/noise ratio. In either case - you're unlikely to get ADSL as they won't replace the copper and in the latter case, you're simply too far away from the local exchange. Is there not a cable or wireless broadband supplier locally?

Fatman (nice name! )

I think the problem is that Bobby lives on a private road, so unless he pays for the road to be dug up, NTL will not install in his area!!

Bobby,

I know Pipex have said there is excessive noise and they can't help, but what solution have they offered? Maybe worth giving them another call to see if they have a way forward!

Looks like it's time to move!!

You could complain to BT about noise on the voice line....They may provide a new circuit if you complain long enough. Then get it retested.

OK - if that's the case, here's a proposition. How many people are in the area in the same situation? Check what it would cost to have the road dug-up and a fat data line installed. You could operate as a mini ISP and resell bandwidth to your neighbours - if enough people are interested!

I've not thought all the details through, but I know it's possible. A nice idea, anyway...

I know of 2 neighbours that are wanting ADSL and are in the same boat.

So if we all complain to BT it may be a solution then!! hmmm
I NEED broadband!!

How much would it cost to get a road dug up?? Im sure if we all chip in then NTL may be a solution.

Andy may come & live near you then
