Talking

I am looking at buying a new computer. I intend to use it for the following

Net surfing - broadband
Music storage, downloading and CD creation
Mpeg and jpeg storage and manipulation, photo printing
Work (spreadsheets and Word documents)

What kind of specs (memory size, speed etc) should I be looking at, what can I expect to pay and where is the best place to buy. I am reasonably computer literate so can install the software and hardware etc.

Thanks

Steve

Thumbs up

Steve

Like everything, it depends on your budget. If you are capable of building your own, you can put together a decent spec AMD 2100 with a good graphics card, 17" monitor etc etc for about £400(ex software). just try some of the online retailers like ebuyer.com, dabs.com, scan.co.uk etc

Alternatively you could buy a full system online, or even try some of your local independants.

For example Dabs are doing a Pavilion 404 2.0GHZ Celeron, 40Gb HDD, 256 Ram, CDWriter\DVD, Firewire, XP, DV Studio for £465 in VAT. - That will give you everything you need.

I'd go for something like an Apple iMac. Dead easy to use and got loads of software you'd have to pay extra for on a PC.
