Question

server to hub = 100mbps
hub to access point = 100mbps

access point to local pc = 11mbps

11mbps seems low - Is this something that would adversly affect users in terms of performance ??

Cool

you not gonna get the full 11mbps on wireless. i think the quicker wireless will be using the 5Ghz bandwidth which is not approved by the DTI in the UK yet.

11 Mb/s is not slow. 11 Mb/s is as quick as most LANs. Having installed many corporate LAN environments 10mb/s is more than enough for 99% of people. Its only recently that home PCs can sustain throughput enough to even make 100Mb/s work hard.

If you're shipping divx movies of 500mb across the wireless link - then yes it will feel slow. If you opening a 50K word doc - youwon't notice the difference. If you're browsing the web and the wireless link is your bottle neck - you're a very lucky man

A modem is 56Kb/s
ISDN is 64Kb/s (or 128 Kb/s)
Home DSL is typically 256 Kb/s
Cable typically 1Mb/s

Your 11 Mb/s wirelss link isnt going to change the way web surfing feels is it ?

Unless of course you leave it completley un-protected and all your neighbours find they can use your link - then you'll notice the a slowdown

K thanks all.

new info just in !

I suspect the issues being faced are down to installation in a building over 100 years old with walls about 2 foot thick. 'Puters on top floor - Access point on top floor (4th)
Hub on 3rd floor - Server on ground floor !!!!!

Jodi - It will definitely be down to how u have deployed your wireless network. Wireless isn't a plug'n'play technology as most people believe to think, especially when the environment has 2ft interior walls
