the 16" tft on my vaio laptop is more than fine for quake 3 . I'm sure standalone tft monitors are even better.

My Belinea 10 17 10 was about the cheapest 17" you could buy a year or so ago. At 1280x1024 (it's native res) you can swing Quake II or Hitman2 about as fast as your graphics card can handle - certainly faster than your eye can focus. I'd be suprised if any modern LCD would have a problem.

OTOH, I had a PICO laptop a couple of years ago which I would play Desert Strike on at 800x600. Every time the screen scrolled diagonally, the whole display would turn to mush for half a second or more - eurgh!

Check out the lag on the screen. Some TFT's lag, and from an online gamer's point of view, LAG = the devil

some screens take 30ms or so to update.

Can highly recommend the Samsung 171s. Spend most of my time playing CS with it.

You need to throw a lot of money at a TFT screen that performs up to scratch, as far as im concerned unless you REALLY must have a TFT then get a proper monitor! you will save money and usually get a much better gaming experience

Check out www.tomshardware.com he does regular round ups of TFT technology

to get close to a CRT you need a contrast ration of greater the 400:1 and a response time of 25ms or less.

If you go for a good TFT make sure it has a digital input and therefore your video card needs a digital output.
