We have a select agreement and are deploying windows xp professional to desktops and laptops as a new image (ghost) works fine on desktops but we get an "invalid product key" on the lappies (key as supplied by MS) - any ideas..it's bizzare..

if service pack 1 is applied then a change in hardware (I changed a CD to DVD ) requires the code to be re-input, which you can't do as youi have to phone up microsoft and quote the number that XP generates so they can quote one back... a pain in the Ar$e asi I am always fiddling!!

Do you use sysprep?
i build images for companies. Product key goes in the .inf file and onto any platform no probs.

Good point fizz. You may well need 2 images due to the hardware changes, one for lapdogs and one for desktops using the same key. Will only take an hour tops to find out.

youve got to create an image from the hardware you are going to load back to the laptop
have you run Ghost Walker afterwards? think that creates a unique id or something
