We have a select agreement and are deploying windows xp professional to desktops and laptops as a new image (ghost) works fine on desktops but we get an "invalid product key" on the lappies (key as supplied by MS) - any ideas..it's bizzare..

Thats about right then
Not sure what the answer is tho, sorry Steve |
Worked ok here. Just done a batch of 40. It didnt ask for the key or activation.

if service pack 1 is applied then a change in hardware (I changed a CD to DVD ) requires the code to be re-input, which you can't do as youi have to phone up microsoft and quote the number that XP generates so they can quote one back... a pain in the Ar$e asi I am always fiddling!!

Do you use sysprep?
i build images for companies. Product key goes in the .inf file and onto any platform no probs. cheers Paul |
not sure if we are using sysrep or not - I'll check tomorrow - we just couldn't work out why 100% desktops ok and 0% laptops would image...
|
Good point fizz. You may well need 2 images due to the hardware changes, one for lapdogs and one for desktops using the same key. Will only take an hour tops to find out.
|
we are deffo using 2 seperate images for desktops and laptops (crazy not to)
|
youve got to create an image from the hardware you are going to load back to the laptop
have you run Ghost Walker afterwards? think that creates a unique id or something |
