Question

Seem to range from 20ms with the majority being around 40ms. Is 40ms too slow for gaming - will I see a blur effect on the screen with fast movement ?

Hello mate

I have the IIyama AS4611UT 18" LCD response time of 30ms ..

I play Unreal Tournament (Very fast FPS game) and never has it looked so good! I also play F1 2002 .. (no frame drops here) and I play Never Winternights.. Although NWN isn't a fast moving game when you have loads of action on the screen (spells being casted and fights going on everywhere) I still do not have any slow down or frame drops over the old 21" montior that I use to have...

So I would say go for a 30ms if you can, then you will not have any worries about game play at all.. (depending on brand I guess as IIyama do make the best games LCD's and CRT's.

For now, conventional monitors will always give you the best display for games, eg. stuff that runs 60 fps, etc...

LCD's aren't quite up to scratch 'yet' in comparison, but still look good.

30ms?

That's like adding 30ms to your ping!

a no-no as far as serious online gamer goes!

I've got a very nice Sony 17" LCD and you can not see any blur. It's driven by a Radeon 9700 Pro using a DVI interface and it plays URT very well.

What we're trying to say is this -

your ping is 27ms - so (assuming your reactions are perfect) - the latency of 27 + the 35 ms it takes the screen to update from the pc = 62 ms in real terms.

Still highly playable, but a cardinal sin for a gamer to more than double his ping

I've just changed to a 17" PC World special LCD. Not that impressed now I'm over the "Wow look at my desk" phase.

Dosn't matter what size CRT you have, thay always win. I've a 21" CRT, and it rocks (its like a staitionary P1). Bigger the better.

Cheers

Well it just goes to show that you have never played online with a LCD monitor then, as I get pings of 27 when playing UT online .. so no problem here ..

Oh .. and people still have problems hitting me as my movement is just as quick as it was when I had a 21" monitor..

So I totally disagree with that statement..
