I want to transfer DV video footage onto PC, edit and then burn to a format I can play in my DVD (which has CDR/RW/VCD playback).

Anybody have recommendations as to which package to go for?

Ther is no capture card in my PC, so I need to include one of those.

I've seen a couple of names; Dazzle and Pinnacle which seem to be prominent in the likes of PC World, etc.

Prices seem to vary from about £40 up to a couple of hundred.

Any help most welcome.

Cheers
Steve

Has your cam got Firewire?

I use Pinnacle Studio DV for the editing, and then Nero to create the VCD.

Works a treat and isn't too expensive.

Camera has got firewire, PC hasn't.

How much footage are you getting on a VCD? Are you using standard CDR/RW, or do I need another type of disc?

What's the approx price of the Pinnacle software?

Thanks for the assistance.

I use Ulead Videostudio 6.

Very easy to use. During the summer holidays my son, 8, and a couple of friends used it on their own to edit a film they had made.

Version 6 includes a batch capture mode where you just leave the camera playing and the software seperates it into different scenes. This used to take forever to do manually.

Once you have the scenes you can trim and rearrange the order then add voice overs and music.

Then you are ready to output.

Have fun whichever you choose.

Just another thought...

Can you buy a package which you can connect both DV and analogue cameras?

Although I've moved to DV, I've got loads of analogue footage which I'd like to convert to VCD as well.
I'd rather not have to buy/install two lots of s/ware and hardware if poss.
