Question

I have 3 PC's all running Win98, all connected via RJ45 to a DSL-504 ADSL hub/router.
All PC's "talk" to each other i.e. can access each others shared folders, and give ping responses from each other and from the router.
ADSL is up and running according to the router LED's.
Using IE I can check the setup of the DSL-504. It reports back the ISP (DEMON) IP address correctly and states that the ADSL link is connected.
I can ping through the browser set-up console to DEMON and get a return no probs.
If I try via the PC's through the router it doesn't work...

Each PC is set up with a manual IP address of 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.4, with the router assigned 192.168.0.1.
Each has a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and each has the gateway assigned as 192.168.0.1 (The router).
Each also has the primary and secondary ISP's DNS IP addresses set.

When I try to open the browser to any internet site explorer tries to access the router (shows the router IP address at bottom of window) and eventually fails with DNS error. The router itself appears (from LED action) to access the ADSL line as well.

I have removed the Dial Up Network and set the LAN via Internet Options e.t.c..

Is there a particular port I should set? I've tried 8080 and 0 but neither works.

Has anyone got any suggestions or help please? Could it be a simple tick box in the configuration settings of the router??

Should I have set up port re-direction or something else in the configuration settings on the router?

Thanks

Tony

Has anyone got the same router and DEMON ISP? If you have, any chance of comparing the router configuration set ups PLEASE..?

(if there is someone, I'm quite happy to produce the list of my set-ups and email for comparison)

From reading:

"Is there a particular port I should set? I've tried 8080 and 0 but neither works."

and

"

it sounds to me like you've put the ADSL router down as a Proxy Server in the Connection > LAN Settings on IE.

This section should be empty for a routed connection. Remove the tick from use a Proxy Server.

Also, from a command prompt one of the PCs (Start > Run > Command), try:

ping www.scoobynet.co.uk

If you get a reply, then it's propably an IE configuration issue.

Definatly reads as if there is a proxy set-up. As Chris says you don't need this for your set-up

I'm running a small network with the DSL-500 ADSL hub/router, but not Demon.

If you want to compare setting email me and I'll give you my phone number and we can talk through them.

I'm no expert, but it does all work.

Talking

Just double checked all the settings, and removed proxy server from internet settings...still nothing.

Could ping from the router configuration to external IP address, but if tried from a PC..it didn't.
checked all the settings, all okay..

Rebooted router, still no joy.
Then read something about a different router, where it should be turned off for 30secs to re-set...

Did that..and...BINGO !!!

Now have 3 PC's all networked, talking to each other AND connected to the internet

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions..they all helped.

Cheers

Tony, I use demon adsl, but not this router.

The primary DNS I have set to my firewall/router , ISP dns' are secondary if you want to try that.
If you want to mail them over I can diff them with mine tonight.

Are you getting no connectivity at all ? Presume you aren't getting as far as authentication on the radius server at demon's end ? ( might be worth giving them a call to check - as the passwords can go west on occasion )

Steve
