Exclamation

This isn't new however the number dialled is. It came from Thus this afternoon and thought some of you might benefit.

Dear Channel Partner

Please cascade the following information to your staff and customers where necessary.

Some of our customers are experiencing substantial losses from a fraud known as Dial Through which is taking place outside normal trading hours. The perpetrators are known to us, but as the calls are inbound to our Network, there is little that we can do to stop them.

What we have ascertained from the calling pattern is that they favour Diffinty Switches with Audix voicemail. If your voicemail has the capability of making outbound calls, once the perpetrator has compromised it, they will then use the compromised service or they will set the Remote Access number to dial tone to allow onward calling.

As the Remote Access password is set by each user it may be difficult for you to change every password but we would suggest that you disable onward call during office hours and divert onward call to your switchboard number outside normal office hours.

The number the perpetrators then predominately call is a Premium Rate Non Content number (09111) which most Companies do not have in their PRS barring list as they have a generic 090 table.

THUS Risk Management is currently liasing with BT and other external agencies and has been able to provide them with information previously unknown to assist them in closing down this operation and move for prosecution. If you need further advice please email Fraud Management.

Question

But surely you should be able to bar any premium rate calls if the user wishes?
What gets me is that on the switches i work with, when you go to 09 in the table its then classed as a high rate (as 09 numbers are) so can you not bar these numbers until the problem is solved or atleast place a correction on the existing software to disable this function?

Tony
