I've used BT, Freeserve and Vrigin unlimited dial-up accounts. And would definately recommend Virgin over the other two.

Go for ClaraNet. They keep getting voted for various awards in the mags, i.e. best ISP on the planet. I set up all our reps on it, not had anyone complain.

reliable, and quick for 56k.. also their adsl is mega cheap and **** hot fwiw
(I referred a mate he got BB and says its great compared to NTL..)
If you do go for it let me know so I can officially "refer" you (i get a smidgen of money then then you can refer other ppl and get money off )
its a win win situation..

if you can get NTL, then go for it. at least you will be on the braodband band wagon

if you can't get NTL, then check out www.v21.co.uk for dial-up. have a look at www.ispreview.co.uk as well.

Thumbs up

I can recommend plusnet following shoddy service from BT.

£15 per month for 40hours per week,

Great service, loads of facilities and no disconnects after 2 hours unlike most dial up providers.

checkout:

Claranet, i`ve been with them for years. They have been fantastic upto now.Now in their wisdom they are putting everyone onto a new 0808 number (obviously to cut costs )and now the service is appalling.Pages take ages to load up, you waste half the night looking at a blank screen, and i`ve got isdn!

Definitely avoid them now, and for less money you could join a cheaper isp that doesnt use 0808 numbers to connect with.

I wrote to support to complain....

Why is it when i connect using the old number (which is mostly engaged now b.t.w) 166408450801144 that the webpages load in the click of your fingers, yet with the new number 08089909070 they take ages to load up??

The difference is unbelievable, its as-though i have ADSL on the old number, and a modem on the new number (i actually have ISDN).

Why should this be? I would be more than happy to stay with Claranet if the service was like the old number all the time, unfortunately i am now thinking my money may well provide better and faster service with another isp (
And their reply...

Thank you for your email. The reason you get a faster connection through
that older number is because as it is being withdrawn from service shortly,
we are encouraging customers to use the standard number (0808). As more
people are using the correct number, the load on the older number is less,
so you may experience faster connections on it, however, as it is due to be
withdrawn, it is certainly not a stable number to be using. You may
continue to use it on your current pricing plan, as long as you are aware
that it may simply dissappear one day.

So to me that means tuff luck, we dont give a monkees! ... and these guys are getting voted top marks, who by?? Probably people like my Mother who only use their internet connection to check e-mail and the occasional search on Google!

V21 - £9.99 a month for 24/7. Currently using BT ISDN @ 64k cos it's the best that's available where I live.
