Hmmm The LC_ALL in /etc/default/init should change the locale on a system wide basis and override any settings in users shell initialization files.

I have Solaris 8 running on a Primepower 200. I know i should know this but i dont

I am currently running with the locale "en_GB.ISO8859-1" and want to change the server to be "en_US".

I have run admintool and loaded the American language support packages (SUNWnamos and SUNWnamow), and edited /etc/default/init to set the TZ = US/Central and all the LC.... variables to en_US.

Is this the right thing to do ? Will it mean that all users will pick up the locale correct, as i need an oracle and a sap user to pick it up correctly ?

Cheers

Dave

Just had a quick check and that should have done it, changing:
LANG=en_US
LC_ALL=en_US

in /etc/default/initfile and a reboot should be all that is needed.

Tried that earlier and root was ok. SAP user came up with "C" when i ran local ??

Also, in the /usr/lib/locale/en_US directories, there is only a LC_COLLATE dir, and not all the others (like sparcv9, etc)

Hmmm.

Oh SAP and solaris locales now that is a real pain. Normaly end up copying them back from a 5 or 7 system.
