As you stand at the entrance to the area where the light bridge is, turn to your right and go to the wall. About midway down there is a slope up to a doorway. Theres a big bugger there to kill, then you go along the walkway to the switch.
Took me a while to find it too !!

To you dedicated gamers this is gonna sound like a stupid Question - but....In HALO when you grab the buggy & enter the cave where is the switch or panel that creates a bridge accross the chasm ? I killed all the baddies in that area but cant find the switch to operate the bridge.....
