First thing I'd try.
After that clear the CMOS by shorting out the "password reset" jumpers on the motherboard.
After that call the supplier's helpdesk

Hmm - sleep a tad easier then tonite - after I've pulled the 19" rack out, opened it up & taken out the battery
Bah! Doing an AV install on my Exch Server & on re-boot that happens
Let me see...
In 8+ years of Sys Admin, that is only the 2nd battery to ever go on me... Mobo is less than 2 years old - maybe 18 mths
Now where's my last beer....

I have had exactly the same thing on about 4 motherboards recently. We have got through a stupid amount of batteries trying to solve the problems. Every single one needed to go back to the manufacturers (HP) for a new m/board.
Looks like a new board to me. Just hope you have on site cover.

You said your were doing an Anti Virus install......
BIOS eating virus possibly??? Sounds like you need a new Flash Chip from the manufacturers (if you can get one) or someone with a dedicated flash chip writer machine (expensive) to upload a new BIOS image into the chip.

Not sure what mobo you have, but I've had this problem in the past on an abit board. I was able to insert a floppy disk, and reflash the bios, which solved the problem.

Tried the reflash thingy exactly according to the instructions but no joy
Machine was virus free but I was using it to test-bed AVD before wrecking the new office network I've just put together. It wasn't that.
Its had this problem intermittently for a while, but always boots on 2nd/3rd try - until this time
Bah!
Off to buy a new mobo, chip, RAM as no-one does Slot1 mobos no more & they don't have sdram ones in stock ATM...
Oh well, 2 years since I last u/graded
