Hard drive not being found on boot up

Hi Folks

Machine was running fine and dandy till about 10 tonight when i got home turned it of then decided to reboot, came up with invalid system disk please replace i've tried hard drive in another machine and it's not recognised on post but when xp pro is booted up it's recognised as a second harddrive with showing both it's partitions making three partions in total boot drive plus faulty drives two.

Any help much appreciated

okay got xp running from hard drive that is playing up by setting it as slave on primary ide and running another hard drive as master on primary and setting boot drive as the misbehaving drive, but i'm still confused as ever

cheers for sugestions guys nick i ran a virus check but came back with nothing, foot tapper machines not got a floppy drive .

Only thought i've had is that the drive has somehow the drive has become nolonger bootable but having the other drive there is making it bootable,

Arrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh now i know why i cook

Make sure the other computers bios is upto date and is able to recognise the dodgy hd on post.

Actually make the above point 2, because point 1 would be to backup all your important data

3rd point... errr. it makes a nice paper weight as I wouldn't trust this hd again.
