I have just been asked how to add the "show desktop" icon to the start bar in XP.

any ideas

Copy and paste the following lines into a Notepad file.

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Save the file to your Desktop as Show Desktop.scf. Next left click on the file you just created and drag it down to the Quick Launch bar and release.

Is this the only way, If I show the person this they may panic.

If i remember rightly you need to right click on the task bar at the bottom and enable the "Quick Launch" icons, of which "Show Desktop" is one of them.

Question

Why not just tell them to use the Windows+M key combination. It has the same effect - to minimize all.
