I have a dongle protected program that I am trying to install on a brand new p.c. I have loaded in windows 98 and all my other software with no problem but when I try to run the protected program, I am getting the error "key not found".

I tried the dongle and software on my old computer and it runs fine. So I know the dongle is o.k.

I have another dongle protected program so I installed that on my brand new p.c and that worked so I guess that the printer port where you plug the dongle in is o.k too.

Now this is starting to pi$$ me off because I need this program up and running for work I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software 3 times but it will not find the dongle when I run the program. Has anybody got any idea's that I can try to get this program up and running?

Thanks.

Check the printer port settings in the bios.

Thanks. But what am I looking for, or what should I change?

I thought that the settings would be o.k because it runs another program that uses a dongle???

i guess it depends on the type of dongle. Many parallel ports are set to 'simple' in the BIOS. change this setting to 'ECP + EPP' or similar.

this should give better performance anyway.

or try all the different parallel port settings in turn. ECP+EPP is the best for printer performance, but doesn't always work with dongles.

True - they often use Sentinal device drivers.
