Hi all,
I'm looking to buy one of these bad boys, as they look like the best on the market that i've played with. Plus they're a cool gadget, which is always important.
Well, what i'm going to ask is to see if anyone has any good/bad comments about these - or suggestions of what else to look at. It would need to have bluetooth, which is an essential. I've heard of a new Dell thing thats coming out - but does anyone know if it has bluetooth?
Plus, i've seen the 3970 for about £360 + VAT - does anyone know if it can be done for less?
Cheers!
Chris

How about the 3870 for £299 in vat? - www.carphonewarehouse.co.uk
The 400Mhz processor is currently not that much faster in the 3970 due to Windows CE not being optimised for it (yet).

The 3970 is £438 inc the VAT from http://no.itbutikken.dk
3870 looks good too, but the 3970 has double the memory i believe? Would this make much of a difference?

Apparently not - i've been in contact with them and they even ship with a UK VAT number so you can claim the VAT back.
As for the restaurant - i happen to be the owners son (for my sins). With regards to a discount, it depends if i'm working m8!

used to have an MY99 but at the beginning of this year I got a STi 7 in WR blue. which is now PPP'd bit of a waste about town but out of town
There are two STi7 in blue running around town the other is on here somewhere his sign on is Dark.
There is a Black Sti7 around but he just looks lost when I wave so I guess he doesn't read this...
Unfortuneatly for you I don't bring the car when I come round to your restuarant as I am partial to your wine list

The 3950 and 3970 have the same memory as the 3870, which is 64mb. The 3850 has 32mb.
The 39xx range has the Xscale 400mhz processor, and a better IR port for controlling your TV etc

Thanks greg. Is there anything else that makes the 3970 a better bet over the 3870? Does it have a slightly better screen or is that my imagination?
Willie - funny i just saw a 52 plate STi in WR Blue on my way home at the bottom of Ravelston Dykes, that would be an amazing coincidence if it was you...

Greg's right, the 39xx is much better than the 38xx range. The price you quoted above is fantastic, its either a mistake or we are selling the product to the distributor at a loss.
Have a look at the thumb keyboard it makes the device very usable when sending out quick e-mails.
There will be an integrated GPRS iPAQ out sometime next year, but we need to coincide the launch with Microsoft's next generation Pocket PC launch.

Cool. will you be able to upgrade the 3970 to this new Pocket PC version or does it not work like that?
Also, I know the price is really good but is there likely to be a price crash any time soon as the new stuff hits the shelf?
Plus I presume i could use the GPRS in my bluetooth phone to connect to the internet as well?

There should be an upgrade path to the next gen Pocket PC but it's likely to cost around £50, this is what happened last time when Win CE was upgraded. However, because I haven't seen the new O/S then I can't say whether there will definately be an upgrade path or not.
Price crash? Probably not, there will still be demand for the non GPRS devices so I doubt whether there will be a drop in price, if anything there may be a premium for the device with the new O/S.
You can do the bluetooth to GPRS phone and it works fine, however the cost per MB is around £1 so surfing picture intensive sites can be costly. Also if you travel then your costs can go up by as much as 8 times compared to the UK - Dublin cost me an arm and a leg.

Good price but will you not have to pay import tax?
What are you to do with (one of) my favourite restuarants? Is there a Scoobynet discount available?
