Wireless Networking between Linux server and Win2000 desktop
#1
If anyone can advise on this, I'd be grateful!
I'm about to start building a junk project PC (socket 7 mobo / K6-2 AMD 266mhz / 96mb ram / 18gb HDD), and when it's complete, I'd like to use it as a web server/firewall for my ADSL line...
As it's going to live in a cupboard, I'd like to arrange some sort of wireless networking solution...Nothing too elaborate (or expensive), just enough to connect it wirelessly to the line, and also my desktop...
(Oh - And I'm aiming to run the server on linux...Any glaring incompatability issues between linux and Win2000 on a WiFi network?!)
Can anyone offer any ideas?
Cheers in advance!
Ross.

What about a smoothwall and a wireless access point at each end.
No point in getting a wireless router unless you have more than one client.

Excellent link Steve!
Downloading as I type, into my folder of Linux goodies...
Can you recommend the best place to get my hands on a pair of reasonably priced wireless access points?
Cheers again,
Ross.

Lee @ ihavetohaveit is a good shout ( banner advertiser and all that )
otherwise all the usual suspects...
http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk
http://www.scan.co.uk
http://www.dabs.com
etc etc.
NB (and this is important) ** Smoothwall install will reformat your drive ** don't expect to use it for anything other than a firewall / proxy / DHCP server

2 access points is an expensive option. I have a linux desktop webserver quite happily running wirelessly to my Acess Point. 802.11 support is pretty well covered in the latest linux kernals.
If you just wanted to use a normal network card you could look at something like the linksys WET11, wireless-ethernet bridge.
