Hi Phil,
letsgodigital is probably the cheapest and has most models in stock.
Have a look at the Sony DSC P71, 3.1 megapixel for £269. I know it's a little more expensive but read the reviews, it may be worth the extra.
Previously mentioned websites have this listed at £300+

2 days ago I picked up a Fuji Finepix 30i...
2mg pixel, 20 sec video clips - Also doubles as an mp3 player!
It's a *quality* piece of kit, and I'm rather chuffed with it
Cost £240 , and that included 96mb work of smartmedia cards, and a usb card reader...
Cheers,
Ross.

Cheapest place around is www.digital-cameras.com
But best thing is choose a digital camera from any internet site, phone them to make sure they have it in stock, then go to your local Jessops. They have a price match policy & will match even internet prices as long as they have it in stock. At least they wont go bankrupt!!!
Hope this helps.

I'd go for the Canon Ixus, from the website mentioned previously
Canon IXUS V3 3.2 megapixels
EXIF 2.2
2x optical zoom, 35 - 70 mm (F2.8 - F4.0)
Digital zoom 3.2x
Shutter speed 15 - 1/1500 sec
Movie files capture - Large: 640 x 480, Middle: 320 x 240, Small: 160 x 120
Direct Printing
ISO 50 - 400
Our Price £339.00
so the older ones are cheaper, ie the V2 is £269 here
http://www.digitaldepot.co.uk/canon_ixus_v2.htm
I have a now 2 year old 2mb pixel Ixus and it's great, sample piccies that has been resized and compressed

Salsa,
I've bought from QED. They're a branch of miller brothers. To be honest, I've had better service from practically every other internet retailer that I've used, plus returns is a nightmare according to a friend...
Walk into Jessops, they'll pricematch, plus you can play with the cameras that you're interested in.
The Ixus V2 looks damn tempting... I'm after a camera for my wife for christmas, and I think that might just be the one... Was considering the Fuji F401, but this looks goooood!

I've had the original Digital Ixus for over two years now and had some great photo's out of it, so the Ixus v3 would be high on my list.
Sample pics (resized down from 1600 x 1200)
Alternatively, PC Pro recommend the Canon Powershot A40.
"The PowerShot A40 defies the odds. How can a camera at this price include a huge amount of high-end features yet beat its budget rivals for quality hands down? We don't know the answer, but our advice is not to worry and to just go and buy it, because this camera is an absolute bargain."

I've just checked with a couple of big trade distributors on the V3.
One is showing 12/11/2002, the other 13/11/2002 as stock ETAs.
Looks like they are still filtering into the channel.

the canon does look good at £208....but the write up does put it down a bit against the others.
i'd still like to take video+sound if possible.
what camera did MDB have?
