Works for me 
Haven't used that (Not silver 
) Sony DVD player since I got the X-Box Fan makes a bit of a noise, but its in the cabinet under the TV anyway, so hardly noticeable.
Plenty of options on the DVD player and great sound and picture quality too. Get the advanced scart and enjoy digital 5.1 sound too.

That's why I bought the XBox - wifey's pregnant, so when she's laid up in bed, the XBox is upstairs as a DVD player!!
Closer to the time, I might have to re-think this arrangement!!
I've got a Toshiba SD100e (multiregion) that might go upstairs in it's place.....
