Elite 4:Frontier is still () In development for the consoles
Can't wait. Spent many an hour played Elite on the Speccy, spotting Thargoids.
Remember that plastic lens thingy that you held to the screen that you used to have to use as a CD-Key type thingy ?

Jeez-oh. I thought I was the only fanatic.
Frontier was sh*te on the PC and a travesty to the original.
Many a night was lost ferrying booty back and forth from Leesti to Lave !

Those were the days.
Collecting cargo pods after blasting pirates (or traders, if you swung that way)
Skimming the sun to get fuel after buying the convertor.
I'd had the pleasure of playing Elite on the BBC, the Spectrum, and the CBM Amiga (best vers), and Elite + on the PC (worst vers) along with Frontier and Frontier : First Encounters.
Classics, every one of them
Mind you, if you liked then you'll like X - Beyond the Frontier and the add on X-Tension.

Had the C64, & Elite was fantastic on that though still had problems when I took on a cargo of furry things called @Trumbles@. When you went into battle or docked they'd cover the screen.
And getting the secret missions was superb, I however did not gain Elite status through hard work, I hacked the code and put, 255 by everything.....instant Elitism......what a game...

I can point you to a hundred Elite/Frontier/FFE resources, I usually start at alioth.net. There are loads of versions on many different platforms. If you like the original then you might like Elite:TNK or Darkness Falls, although the latter is only in demo stage at the moment. Elite 4 I'd give up on for the time being, it's not coming out anytime soon and Frontier Developments always put it back, although it's not entirely their own fault. David Braben isn't too fond of all the versions of Elite out there so it's possible all those could disappear at some point. There is a perfect Palm Pilot version of Elite, but that wont be distributed because DB wont give consent. Get all the copies you can on different emulators (including the Arch version, which is the b0llocks) now!

I just downloaded it and ran it fine (all I did was eject from the space station. Didn't try to dock again as it would have ended in tears).
Unzip it all to a new directory, run the Elite.exe, set up the sound (Adlib), MCGA (256 colours), and type in any word and press return when it asks you, and it worked OK for me.

Ahhhh Elite...
Had it on the BBC... many happy memories...
Destroyed several joysticks playing this game.
Never got beyond "Deadly" though.
Must read "The Dark Wheel" again...

Ah Elite what a game. Do you remeber the competition to become Elite. I missed out on that I was the 14th to become Elite. You can't beat a planet with a bit of Anarchy or a Thargoid invasion zone !
