I'm with Telewest, have been for approx. 5 months now and during this time I've experienced no problems at all (touch wood!).
It's £25p/m if you've got other Telewest goodies (phone or tv) or £35p/m if not.
This is with the 512k/128k service but you can upgrade to the 1mb option too! This is an additional £10p/m.
IMO, it's good value. The 512k is more then good enough for me. Just depends if you can justify the extra cost of the 1mb if you want that one.

I'll second Telewest.
I've had the 512/128Kb service for almost two years and I've only had a drop in service twice. Even then, it only took a phone call and a quick reboot of the cable modem to sort out.

Only changing because they don't serve my new property.
Customer service could be better. But thats just a sign of the times.

On the basis that you may not be in a cable area have a look at

Had NTL 512 for about 2½ years. When its working its great but I've some trouble with them. Must have had a couple of dozen service outages in this time including 1 that lasted 9 days and 1 that lasted 5.
Overall its worth the money but its fecking frustrating when you've been on hold with tech support for more than 2 hrs. The whole faults and support infrastructure is w@nk. <feels a rant coming on - must calm down!>

Thing is that you will be in a Telewest area or an NTL area.
I've been with Telewest (Blueyonder) since August 2001 with the 512k option, and in that time I've had 3 days of downtime. Still pretty good though.
Recently switched to the 1Mb option and it's brilliant!
I have friends on NTL, who only have bad things to say about them!!
Telewest have employed more tech support, so you get through quickly.
Forgot to say that Telewest supports networking (up to 5 PC's I think), where as it's a no no on NTL!!

I'm wading through the ISP's at the minute. BT finally accepted my line exists after 45 days of hassling them. You can guess who's NOT getting the business after that.
Current favourite is Griffin - anyone know of them?
Spec is:
Upto 500Kb/s Download Speed
Upto 250Kb/s Upload Speed
Maximum 50:1 Contention Ratio
24 x 7 Unlimited Internet Access
Free Domain Name Registration (.co.uk)
Unlimited EMail Addresses
100Mb Free Webspace
Upto 5 Static IP Addresses
Plus its only a 1 month contract so if it's sh1te then I can move.
Forgot the price £22.50 + vat

Dont go with pipex - they are utter donkey poo if you want my opinion after 6 months. Speeds never get past 10K/s. Support wouldnt know a router from the back end of a scoob and as for the pings, well, at the mo, they are averaging 200ms to the jolt servers

if you dont need tech support, and dont buy their hardware, use fairADSL at only 18.99 a month.
if you want more features try plusnet. they cost 23 a month, but give you a fixed IP, 250meg of webspace supporting CGI and MySQL.
use adslguide as mentioned above for more information on the hardware etc.

I'm on NTL m8 (600)
Connection gets dropped, on average 3 times a month with no customer support letting you know their about to drop it.
Takes at least 30 min to get through to customer services by phone.
If NTL is an option when you move, you may be lucky and get a hastle free service, but I would try someone else first m8.

I've had the freeserve package since May. Very happy with it.
On the other hand, totally and utterly ****ed off wht the service BT offered. They lost my order for the service four times. I have all the details written down and am still thinking about writing to watchdog.
