Well now that the server space has been taken away........ I have to buy a backup device to store me files and mail in case the worst happens.

I need to backup about 2 Gig of changing data, once every 2 weeks. I have been given about £160 to shut me up...

I was thinking external CD Read /Writer?

any advise or deals out there??

Cheers

Huh? You want to back up 2Gig of changing data on 600MB CDs?

Either get an external HDD or buy a second-hand DDS-2 or DDS-3 tape drive off E-bay.

Try Ghost Scoobysnack. It works brilliantly and is quick too. With that budget you can have a CD Writer as well.

I use DVD-RAM. Type 1 holds 4.7Gb per disc. Type 2 holds 9.4Gb per disc. It's sectored like a hard drive. So it's ideal for your purpose. You can add files and edit files without having to rewrite the whole lot.

I came across this problem at work, but the data needs backing up daily. So i'm setting up an old P233 with a nice new HDD (~40gb) which will act as backup storage.

Just chuck it under the desk or in a cupboard with some cat5 and VNC or something to control it

I got a DVD+RW from Sony which comes with backup software.

Just take a little DVD disc home with me (offsite) every night. Holds 4.7GB
