I recently bought a Konica KD-400Z and am chuffed with it.
www.internetcamerasdirect.co.uk are very competitive price wise for any model though & if you don't like doing the internet purchasing thing just print off their price or the cheapest price you can find at www.cameratag.co.uk and take it to a Jessops shop & they will price match no problem.

I have the Canon Powershot A40 mate.
It's superb (although only gripe is you really have to buy more storage!)

See some on a recent thread in Members Gallery (under "Weapon of Choice")

....sorry, can't do links...

Finepix 2800 here too Top banana camera and 6x Optical Zoom. About 250 quid now. My dad has the A40 and its OK too but the bigger optical zoom on the 2800 swung it for me!

Pentax Optio 330RS (make sure it's the RS - more features, 11MB on-board RAM + much cheaper).

400 notes got me the camera, case, 128MB card, spare battery, and I cant fault it - superb

Cool

I bought the Fuji Finepix 4800 from PC World () with a free 32Mb card for £349. It's a great camera!

Although they don't seem to do it any more

Try http://www.internetcamerasdirect.co.uk/ for good prices and 'knowing what you are getting'!

Hi Gary,

I bought an A40 a few months ago when the price went under £200.

Good things: Features
Movie mode
AA Batteries

Bad things: Had to buy NiMH Batteries
Had to buy a case
Had to buy another flash card.

Other than that, great camera for the price.

I have the Canon A20, the older version of the A40, have recommended it to loads of other people (who have bought one and recommended it again!).

The A40 is the A20 with MPEG technology added.

The pictures are great (at best quality). I have had no problems with it, and I'm very trigger happy (taken about 5500 pictures in the last year, but I've been living abroad and going away a lot!).

In my experience, look mainly for two things, the highest pixel rate (if you can afford a 3.1 megapixel camera, get it), and the highest optical zoom. The A20 has a x3 optical zoom which is great, but the 7.5 digital zoom can be done on a computer with a paint program, so it's not worth any extra money.

As Suba said above, DPReview is a great website, and a cheap place (but shop around) for digital cameras is Cameras Direct. Also eBay is a great place for anything electronic, but don't get excited with the bidding. I have seen people pay more on eBay for things you can buy in the shops!
