Can't you set it to use "NT security logon" so that you don't have to supply a password or is the case that the NT account you logon with doesn't have permission to open your mailbox? (I have my laptop set up this way as I have two email accounts, one on my customers mailserver and one on our companies mailserver!)

Good luck

Nick

Edited to say that my Office XP Pro install remembers my logon username so is it not a matter of logging on once successfully, closing down Outlook and restarting it.Doesn't it remember it then? (Maybe after a network logoff so to speak!!)

Just rebuilt my laptop and one thing is bugging me.

When I open outlook to talk to my exchange server - how do I get it to pre-populate the Username and domain logon fields ?

It used to. Now its not a lot to type but it is annoying.

My machine is not a member of the domain so I log onto the laptop with a personal user account then authenticate as required to Network shares/exchange etc.

Its refusing to remeber it no matter what - whcih is now really annoying me

Deano,

Were you on the domain before? If so, login will be seamless...

If not, I guess you're asking why the fields are not pre-populated. Mine are

This really doesn't help, does it?

Nick, not in the domain (now or before) as I dont want my laptop "assimilated" (I'm consulting ) - and yes its the pre-population is missing. Thanks for the clarification though

Cool

Yeah, I did this on Sunday on mt mum and dad's PC.

It isn't obviously where you'd expect it to be. From memory, I think it was in tools accounts, then highlight yer default, click properties and nose around in there. It might be under advanced IIRC, if you click "connect" then you get a pop up box with the dialling gubbins, like you do when you click on IE icon or network dial up, but slightly different in appearance. Fill it in and check remember p/w (sorry a bit obvious) and Robert's yer relative.

One of them things to do so infrequently it takes some lateral fishing around.

have you changed the username or password that you use to login to the laptop... was it just passing it through before as the username and password matched?

Username/Password match some network shares for conevenience - I was always presented with the Outlook/exchnage logon box but previuosly Username and domain were filled in - leaving me to enter the password.

Deano, I do exactly the same but it works. It's never disappeared. My only thought is the credentials that you provided when you configured your corporate mail access weren't right. Can u remove the "Exchange" service and re-add?

it prompts that as you were not in the domain. Either make the account you logon to your laptop the same as what your network account (same username/password)

or if you are in XP go to control panel, then to user accounts. Select an account, then click on manage your network passwords - and hey presto job done, no more typing in password
