This one is pretty quiet

Quieter than most of the AMD's out there

I can hardly tell when it is on and it is in the same room as me now.

Cheers,

Nick

Hi folks,

Not mine this time, but my housemate has decided that he wants to upgrade his main machine at home, as for the first time in 5 years he has found a game that he wants to play (Battlefield 1942). He built this machine last year as a kind of trophy rig and then never used it! It has had a total of not more than 30 hours use.

Here is the spec:

ECS D6VAA Dual Pentium III Motherboard
2x Intel PIII 1Ghz FCPGA CPU
2x Unknown, but nice and beefy heatsinks with Thermoengine fans and shrouds over them

Reviews of the Motherboard can be found here:

http://www.2cpu.com/Hardware/D6VAA/d6vaa_1.html

http://www.hothardware.com/hh_files/...cs_d6vaa.shtml

http://www.sysopt.com/reviews/ecs-d6vaa

Due to the only bad feature being that they never released a decent bios for the machine, I sourced the very last in-house build of the bios and then embedded the latest 2.32 Highpoint Bios into that. This BIOS is the fastest and most fully featured one released for it, but there is only 1 downside. When it reports the drives/irq's etc at the end of the bios, there is character misreporting, due to this bios not being 'touched up' in-house.
Doesn't hinder it at all, just a simple cosmetic glitch on the boot screen.
If you want, you can flash it back very easily to one of the official builds, but I wouldn't recommend it, as the older BIOS is slower and has one of the oldest Highpoint BIOS's too, which I don't recommend. If memory serves, I think that the board with this BIOS automatically enables Memory Bank Interleaving, increasing the RAM performance too, whilst the normal BIOS builds did not.

Please email jamie@mss-alphalaw.co.uk with question or serious offers please, or post on here and I will tell him. The PIII chips alone still go for a good price on ebay, so please bear this in mind

Cheers,

Nick

And why exactly, does he feel a dual 1Ghz PIII wont hack BF1942

With a decent graphics card I should imagine it might just about cope

He has a GF4 Ti4200, so it is good enough. Don't ask me why, ask him

He wants to build another machine, he wants to sell some of his kit now, simple as that. Like I said, questions, ask him!

If you look on Ebay, you will see that these are going for upto £85 with a fan second hand. I am not saying that he expects that for each one, just stating facts.

Cheers,

Nick

Cool

I don't and I'm sure he's not.

It's an item that I would possibly like to buy, but given my current financial/job status, that is the value (or amount of money) that I would place towards it.

If that is insufficient, then so be it. It is an offer though.

No. £150 is a good price. When I sell stuff on here, whether it is mine or my housemate's etc, I price it fairly. You guys just want something for nothing.
Jamie sit's next to me at work and is saying forget it, it is going on Ebay. Cheers anyway, but £120 is stupid money for that.

Cheers,

Nick

Not getting stroppy, just stuck in the middle and I like selling stuff to you guys first as it is normally pretty cool stuff at good prices and I like selling to people who will get use and enjoyment out of it etc. Call it sad, but it is like being in a club to me on here

Mike, he is replying to your mail as I write this

It has been running absolutely fine on a 300W PSU since it was built.

Suba, what size cache are the 200's that you are running?

Cheers,

Nick
