Problems installing a Deskjet 1220C

I'm trying to share a brand new Deskjet 1220c from one of the PC's here @ work. The PC is a brand new Dell P4 running XP Pro. Locally, the printer installed first time, but it won't let me install the driver on any of our NT4 (SP6a) workstations. It won't even allow the driver to be installed on the XP machine (under additional drivers).
I've tried another W98 machine and it works fine; I've even added that driver onto the XP box, so it installs automatically for a few users.
Has anyone used this printer on NT4? I've downloaded every driver I could find on the HP site and the ones on the supplied CD don't seem to work either.

BTW, I downloaded the dj1073en.exe file and extract the driver into a folder.
When I try to add it to XP I get this message:-

Hi Oz, driver nitmare eh.
Is this printer, a true "local" printer ?? on an XP pc ??
I have never tried to share a local printer to mutiple operating systems. But have shared network printers to multiple operating systems including NT.
Networked
When installing printer on NT, you have to install drivers for all operating systems at same time/on same pc.
Locally.
I think you have to install drivers locally,on individual pc's. buuuuuut.
i am almost sure if you install locally on an NT w/stn or server;
you have to install the drivers for the other operating systems as well.
hope this doesnt confuse issue, make sure correct drivers are used
for correct op system, you should be ok

Hi,
The printer is a true local printer to one of the Dell's running XP - it's connected using just a parallel cable. It installed automatically on the XP box and prints perfectly locally.
I shared the printer and then tried to add the driver locally for each of the various OS's. To be honest, it'll just be NT4 and one or two XP boxes that want to use it.
I tested the Win 9x drivers and they installed perfectly on the local PC using the Additional Drivers option on the Sharing tab on the XP box. If I connect to it from a Win9x workstation, it automatically downloads and install the drivers.
Unfortunately, NT4 just doesn't play ball. The way around the problem is to install the driver on the remote PC as a local printer (LPT1), then add a local port using the UNC path name of the shared printer (if that makes sense).
I'll have a play round tomorrow to see if it's a particular problem with the new 1220C.

Oz, my brains gone dead, i work with NT all day and cant remember exactly.
As you install on the w/stn's using unc names, or browsing you should be able to use your own specified driver.
trouble is , it looks for an inf file doesnt it.
Try running the executable, which will install driver and point it to lpt1. Then afterwards, point it to the unc path to your xp box.
NT lists all the paths, ip's etc of printers installed on it.
If you go into properties of one printer, then onto ports,
(i think), it should list them there.
Sorry , dont wont to teach egg sucking & all that.

Thanks FT.
I've given up, can't be @rsed working out whats wrong with it. Since there's only a handful of PC's wanting to print to it, I'll just use the workaround.
