"FIND" in Win98 start menu
#7
no any freeware utils that "finds" ?
or the reg key to enable find in the start menu - something has gone wrong with our policies - and we cant get the bloody find to come back, all others show if i want them accept find. If I log on as as an admin is showing.. so thinking the machine may be getting confused - so reg key would be handy, then i can force it to show it everytime a user logs on.

This is what happens when Windows asks for a find:
MSDN
And to call it to find from a certain directory you would do the following:
Private Declare Function ShellExecute Lib "shell32.dll" Alias "ShellExecuteA" (ByVal hwnd As Long, ByVal lpOperation As String, ByVal lpFile As String, ByVal lpParameters As String, ByVal lpDirectory As String, ByVal nShowCmd As Long) As Long
Private Const SW_SHOWNORMAL = 1
Private Sub cmdShellExecute_Click()
'I HAVENT HANDLED THE RESULT IN THIS EXAMPLE
Debug.Print ShellExecute(Form1.hwnd, "find", "d:\", vbNullString, vbNullString, SW_SHOWNORMAL)
End Sub

ah ha!
Remove Find Folder from Start Menu
Start the Registry Editor
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer
Right-click an open area in the right pane and select New > DWORD Value
Name it NoFind
Double-click this entry and add the value 1
Exit RegEdit and restart Windows
To reverse just change the value back to 0.
