Question

I'm moving house this week and therefore am going to have to accept life without broadband for a while

I am currently using Blueyonder with whom I have an @blueyonder.co.uk email address. I will be moving to temporary accomodation until my house is built and will not be using Blueyonder in future because there is no cable at my new place. As this account will be terminated, is there any way I can redirect mail for this account to a new one ?

Don't think I can, but worth a go

I'm in the same boat, just using the webmail meantime.

Telewest take a month to cancel so make sure you phone them asap.
Oh and drop your telly package down to the minimum as well, should save a tenner.

Been using the webmail too

All is cancelled and they come to take my cable modem away on Thursday Don't use their TV, have Sky instead. Just the telephone to scrap too.

Have to say, IMO, the service from Telewest is absolute sh!te. It takes an age to actually get to speak to someone and when you do eventually get through, they don't want to know and always pass you to someone else Always swore that I'd never use them again after the fiasco with the old cable TV, certainly won't be using them ever again . . . . Saying that, the broadband was good when it worked.

I'm on Telewest 1Mb Cable and I cant fault the service, Yes i have had some major problems, but they have all been resolved and i got a nice bit of compensation from them too

I also have the mobile number of the senior technician in my area, and should I have a problem I log a fault with the muppet in the call centre then give this guy a call Last time I called him he was at my house within 25 minutes!

Dunk,

I don't think you can re-direct the e-mail since it's Telewest who own the domain name and will delete your mailboxes once your subscription is cancelled.

If it were possible, then they would obviously charge you to redirect certain aliases on the blueyonder.co.uk domain name.

I personally can't fault the BY service. Had it for the past 2yrs and I've had it running 24/7. It's only ever been offline for 1 day out of all that time.

I have heard of certain areas being much worse though (most of them being South of the border too )

Okay, thanks guys.

I've got my djdunk.com domain redirecting to my hotmail () account so its just any loose emails that may get lost. Ho hum.

Over a year of Blueyonder and it's only been down for 3 days in that time! Not bad in my books! Works out as 99.3% uptime!

Sorry, didn't mean the "service" was crap. Meant to say that the "customer service" is crap IMO

Totally agree, I had it for a year and only had about 5-6 days downtime

Ah, cutsomer service. Well, as long as the network service is up we're fine

Must admit, it did take me 40mins of holding to get my one downtime fixed.

One of the lads here @ work had to wait 12 weeks to get his ADSL installed (after BT quoted him only 2). They kept their word and after 2 weeks, came to disconnect his old ISDN line. Wasn't until then that they told him he'd have to wait at least another 8 weeks to get ADSL installed.

At the same time another bloke here phoned BY and it was installed within 10-days.

Needless to say, Mr BT wasn't a happy chappy.

He's right though - only £20 for a .uk domain name and a POP3 box that is dial-up ISP independent.

Question

If you've already got a domain, why the hell is anyone sending mails to your BlueWonder account?

Why not just get BY to keep the account on the PAYG dialup service, that way you have a fall back ISP, and also you can keep your BY e-mail.

Because the domain only redirects incoming mail and does not mask the address of outgoing. Need to sort that out once I am not living out of boxes

Thats down to the config of your e-mail client.

Aaaah, thought it could be. How do I fix that then ?
I'm using OE6. All my domain supplier (Lycos) does is redirects mail from *@djdunk.com to an address I specify.

How do I make return mails look like they have come from djdunk.com ?

Many thanks
