I have 1k to spend on a complete system,CPU,mobo, case, graphics card etc(not monitor though)and would like some ideas on how to spend it.
I like the watercooling idea(Mr Footlong),but have no idea what kits are the best. The machine will mainly be used for gaming etc so ideally a GF4 will have to be included.
so c'mon guy........spend my grand for me.

I am sooooo tired that I will have to use valuable work time to answer this properly tomorrow
I am not going to tell you what to get. It all comes down to personal preference. I will give you as much advice and pointers as I can, but the final decision will be down to you
Cheers,
Nick

Actually, just a quick question.
What exactly do you want to achieve?
You want the nice virtual silence of consumer level watercooling?
You want it because you want overclock like a nutter?
Cheers,
Nick

Si, I am only after a 2.8 because I am stupid and want 3.6 out of my rig for no better reason than the fact that I can and I am hoping that it will quell my need for upgrades for a while. I have an incurable disease for gadgets and it does me and my wallet inm and has done so for as long as I can remember. I really don't recommend that people waste cash like I do. The P4's still carry a nice premium on them but have come down quite considerably if you look at the right places. AMD's are just as good at pretty well everything and a load cheaper in general as you know.
When you say 2, you mean to overclock, right?
Give us as much info about what you want to achieve mate.
Cheers,
Nick

Mr Footlong,
Overclocking is the main theme..............however i would like something more so for graphics(games etc).Watercooling is a definate, but as i said before i have never had any experience with this sort of kit.Thats why i would like as much advise on what components(CPU,mobo case etc)are best to go for with respects to watercooling.
To be honest i like the Koolance case and kit(like yours),but was curious as to what other kits i could use.

Why don't you spend 1k on top gear, and then if the PC is too slow think about watercooling?
Just a thought from the "I am skint and petrol is going to rise 10p a litre" brigade... I mean - overclock for what? A higher WinBench (or whatever) score than anyone else?

If you are doing this for a hobby and just to experiment then
If you are doing it thinking that you will be saving money then think again.
I am sure that you realise that the extra dosh that you fork out making whatever chip you get running faster stably with watercooling will be negated by the fact that the extra dosh could have been spent on a faster cpu in the first place.
Right, with that out of the way, on with the info:
The Koolance is good as an entry level system to watercooling. It cools well, is reliable and is cool in the way that it alters it's fan speeds according to temperature.
Compromises have been made however to the overall system. The radiator is not particularly efficient, the inner pipe diameter of 0.25" is very restrictive and the cpu cooling heads are good, but nowhere near the aftermarket ones in performence. I think that you would soon want to change the Koolance setup.
The system overclocks pretty well, but nowhere near the custom setups.

Kit No 2:
Innovatek.
For an all in one kit, these cool excellently, far better than the koolance. Again, the pipe diameter 3/8" is a little restrictive, but makes a high fluid velocity through the system.
An excellent all in one consumer-style choice.

Dtek Customs.
Although based in the US, they do ship to here and stock some cracking kit.
If I was still doing watercooling, then most of my components would have been purchased from here.
Components chosen from here would be:
Cooler Core COMBO (Unpainted) (Big, efficient Heatercore) 0.5" Barbs
Panaflo High Performance 120mm Fan or the Enermax wich is quiter, but flows much less air.
Now, I would choose the Poly Topped Copper Spir@l Waterblock, but they have yet to do the P4 version
So, I would go with a Gemini Cool High Flow P-4 (478) Spiral to tide me over.
I am speccing P4 stuff as you will get far higher overclocks with these than the AMD's when watercooling and far more safely too.
I would get about 6 or so Nylon Hose Clamps from the same site too. Jubilee clips are still the weapon of choice for me though, but don't overdo them!
This leaves us with tubing, pumps and reservoirs. Tubing is easy. Reservoirs a little difficult to source, but the pump is the hard part. Reason being that most of these pumps are 240V pond pumps that work completely independently of the PC power supply. Eheims, Via's work this way. This means that you have to make sure that the pump is switched on before powering up the rig. Now you can get around this by fitting a flow sensor, but only if you have pc shutdown upon no fan etc selected in the bios. The flow sensor plugs onto the cpu fan header and emulates the fan rpm sensor.
Tubing can be bought from over-clock or www.extremecooling.co.uk
A custom reservoir built by yourself may be the best answer, I thought about it and was heading that way before going phase change..

Now, unlike here, their search facility actually works and there is a ton of info on there. I recommend you drop by.

is also highly recommended for cooling info.
That's about all for now.
Cheers,
Nick

Dom, imo that thing completely defeats one of the main reasons for watercooling, noise.
I wouldn't go anywhere near that personally. a product where the product isn't needed imo.
Sorry, just my thoughts on that.

Nick

The above was meant to be:

Edited to add DTEK, despite being fairly obvious to figure out

the reason i can't wait 'till they all jump on that wagon, is that someone has got to make a quiet version sorry should have mentioned that it's gonna be loud, but with quieter fans and a few tweaks, someone should be able to produce the same kind of contained water cooler...
