Viewing e-mails through another account
#1
At work they have blocked access to Hotmail so is there any way I can view my Hotmail messages within another e-mail account, such as Yahoo?
I haven't got access to Outlook Express either, nor can I download anything.
Can anyone help please?

in Yahoo, you can set up pop sever to get your hotmail
To answer the question, why not buy a domain + webmail from Titanhosts? For £10 you can get a .org.uk domain, and £20 will get you webmail access to it. That way you have a permanent email address (after all, Hotmail could be charged/shut down at any time) and the webmail address is far less likely to be blocked by your work web access than Hotmail or Yahoo!
A colleague at work did this the other day for the exact same reasons you describe, and is very pleased with the result.

Hotmail does not expose any POP/SMTP type interfaces.
It is largely (can't tell you any more or I'd have to shoot you ) orientated to the Hotamil web pages.
The reason you can get to Hotmail via Outlook is the *special relationship* between Microsoft and (MSN) Hotmail which means that they have been able to program direct access to teh Hotmail backend...oo-er missus

Thanks for the speedy responses!
(While I was typing MartinM replied!) I did initially say, but have just amended, that I tried doing this in Yahoo Si but MartinM has just explained why it wouldn't work.
MarkO, I've got so many things set up to send mail back to Hotmail which is the only reason I'd like to view the Hotmail e-mails at work. I do have (loads of) other accounts so what I'll have to do in the near future is change the settings for memberships to send mail to these other accounts. Hopefully will get round to it before they do shut down / start charging for the free ones.
Thanks all,
ST.

Why don't you wait till you get home to access your e-mail ?
They obviously don't want you to do this, and you may have a problem if your caught trying to get around their security changes.

Just go to www.mail2web.comput in your e-mail address and password and Bob's your uncle (or not, as the case may be)

www.mail2web.com...
...so you go to a site that you don't need to register for and type in a username and password of a valid email account somewhere on the web ... and wait to see what happens
And unless you spot the fact there is a 'secure login' hyperlink, you're passing this info over the web in plain text
And you try it with your Hotmail a/c and it doesn't work...
...and then you complain about spam emails...or worse.
Nice one

Thanks!
Edited to add:
Just tried it and unfortunately as MartinM says above you can't access Hotmail from elsewhere bar OE and MSN. Still, it works for all other e-mail addresses though.

I didn't try it with my Hotmail account, just used one of the other one's that I have (one I never really use) which it worked fine with. It says this on the Help section though:
Hotmail User? Unfortunately, you can not access your Hotmail account as there is no POP3 access for Hotmail. We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause, but there is nothing anyone can do as Hotmail use a propriety access protocol, which is not published. Other than the usual web access the only email client that can access a Hotmail account is Microsoft Outlook Express. (Information correct as of July 2001.)
Just confirmed what you stated earlier.
Not bothered if they spam that account.
Edited coz I can't spell!
