Question

At a friends house...

Trying to open either a Word, Excel or Powerpoint doc - any of them - by either double click in explorer or file/open etc...

As soon as the document opens, the application terminates

WTF is going on?

We've re-installed Office 2000 & still happening. Was OK yesterday

W2K Pro loads of RAM etc

Thanks

Further investigation reveals that Project 2000 has subsequently been installed since last use of Word or Excel...

Does that help (it doesn't us!)

Weird. when u say u reinstalled it, did u completely remove it first? If not do it again, do custom install and uncheck that Project 2000 app, whatever it is. And only install the apps you require. If that doesnt help, install Office 2k service packs, or try Office XP, or if that doesnt help format/reinstall

Thumbs up

I think we had the same problem after installing MS Project.
Try installing Project first, then Office. Worked for me

I had a problem with O2k the other day. It was kinda worse too. It decided under NT4 SP6, it would be a good idea to delete some .nls files and not replace em.

So that means NT couldnt boot up. Great, just great. Then it asks if I want to start an emerency restore with the erd disk, erm what ERD disk.

In the end I had to remove the hdd insert it into another machine and copy the files over, followed by replacing the hdd in the original machine.

I cant help but think microsoft coding quality gets worse by the day !

Only thing I could think of is that MS decided the GC key was a hacked / mass pirated one.

Our customer got it on their 100% genuine Office 200 SBE OEM Product.

What's strange was we saw the problem even though SR1 hadn't been installed.

Legit as far as I am aware, but you'd hardly think MS would want to p1$$ off good customers by ******** a certain licence set just to nobble a couple of piraters who'd then just get a key that worked

Probably just a result of MS Project & dodgy programming

My m8 took his laptop to the IT dept that had supplied it & the software for a new key. Problem solved.
