ADSL..why so slow???

Got Pipex a few months ago. Some times it is so slow..I cant believe it. It can take 7-8 seconds to load a page on scoobtnet..

any clues???

It's not ADSL (or cable for that matter) that's slow. It's the server you are connecting to. You can only receive as fast as the site sends.

I think that it is ScoobyNet

This reply was quick to enter, but earlier it was taking several minutes to load a page, and often buttons were missing (timed-out).

Chat seemed OK though

Scoobynet seems to be slowing at the minute, took a good few minutes for this page to load on ADSL, although some times it does seem fine

i get the same from ScoobyNet. Sometimes really quick, other times least a couple of seconds - rather annoying!

Is it not the contention ratio.... 50:1 (20:1 for business)
Does it not depend how many other ADSL users are in your area, if it is popular and everyone is using it can it not grind to a halt...
(ready to be corrected but that was my understanding of it.)

No, it's not the contention ratio.

I am sat at work now on a mega network with a silly fast connection and some sites, this being one of them, can be really slow at times.

dont forget to turn off QoS if you are using XP to get every single bytes out of your connection.
