installed a fresh copy of XP on my notebook but now go.icq.com wont launch the pop-up windows! went to windowsupdate.com but got nothing to update. turned off firewall and still no luck. here's the error message...
Sorry, you may either be using an old browser that does not support Java, or your Java support may be disabled. Be sure your computer is running at least Netscape 4.6 and above, or Internet Explorer 4.x and above. If you are running new versions of Netscape or Internet Explorer, and ICQ2Go! still does not launch, make sure you have Java turned on. If you don't have the required browser version or Java support installed, you can obtain them from the following sites:
For the newest Netscape software go to: www.netscape.com
For the newest Microsoft software go to: windowsupdate.microsoft.com
For the newest Macintosh Runtime for Java go to: www.apple.com/java/

There is no Java support as standard with IE6 on XP. MS pulled the JVM after legal wrangles with Sun. I.e. they are trying to kill off Java usage.
However, go here http://java.sun.com/getjava/download.html and download the runtime and install. You will then be able to run applets like you are used to.
Cheers

thanx ian. did a bit of STFW and found i need to download it from www.sun.com. read about microsoft support (or lack of it) of java as well in their website.
but how come i managed to use the java pop-up in XP before??? i only found out i cant use it after a fresh install of XP (using the same XP cdrom).
do you think windowsupdate.com removed it?

Strange that you had it before, then you didn't, then you needed to reinstall it.
I'm not sure to be honest as I don't use XP, just know what I have read.
But if it is now working, do what I do: Don't worry about it
Cheers
