Recently took over a web server with the above operating system on. I've just installed Xfree86 and VNC so that I can see the desktop of the pc from across the internet, dialed in and all that's on the screen at the other end is a command prompt in a non-movable window.

Is there any software I can install to give me a desktop environment, from memory I think we used to type startx at uni but that just gives me a file not found error here. I've found things called xdm, KDE and Gnome, are these what I need?
