Dabs had a 5Gb HD for £500 ? Yikes.

I'd go looking for a second hand machines somewhere, and pull out the drives form that. Most towns have these places, usually called something like MicroSpares or something similar

Cheers

Ian

I have a couple of 850Mb drives you can have. You learn far more from discovering what you "dont" need to install to get a working system. Most Linux distros seem more bloated than MS these days.

Keep to a Workstation Install, no sources, if you going to have X then just one Window manager (KDE OR Gnome) and you should be fine.

Not sure what they are mate! Linux is pretty foreign to me!

Only used RCS and Borne shell programming

btw - I've followed my own advice and still have more questions than answers

Did get a server to stream a webcam picture last night in about an hour and half including rebuilding my venerable old P100 from scratch. I love the amount of free software and flexibilty of linux - I just wish everything didnt have to depend on very obscure text files
