we use businessserve muli user, i think it was £175 to set up, 512k, you get the alcatel hub/router thing, £35 per month.
i think the contention ratio is 20:1, whatever that means.
we've had no problems at all, i get the odd cannot find server nonsense, but going into the alcatel control panel and disconnecting then reconnectiong seems to do the trick - i don't know why.
i think the single user is about £30.

check out www.adslguide.org.uk for the lowdown and opinions, most people I know that are on BT Openworld are desparately trying to leave them, they never get rated much.

I thought that BTO still implement some forms of port blocking though?
Wouldn't make sense on a business connection, but heard stuff to that effect yonks ago.......
I don't know, as I don't sell them as ADSL solutions to our clients.......

According to the register its off at the moment. but BT are threatening to re-intoduce it
And you're right A business connection should psotively welcome the banning of ptp

Rik,
All the above are not Business ADSL but Home ADSL that are bought as wires only (ie no Frog) by the ISP and then bundled to customers with a router
Ask this question "what is the contention ratio?" - the answer will be 50:1
All three IP Stream Business products are actually at 20:1 contention and cost wholesale £40+vat £60+vat and £80+vat for 500, 1000 and 2000 respectively.
The IP Stream Home 500 (50:1) costs £15+vat Wholesale so there you go!
If you think that is scary, ask yourself what the conversion (ADSL enable) fee is and then you start to realise some ISp's will be going pop very soon

contention ratio is the number of other ADSL lines that are sharing the same port in the Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM or Mux) inside the BT exchange. Common sense dictates the higher the ratio, the poorer the service can potentially be. Thus 20:1 costs more than 50:1

Hi Suba,
Please confirnm that BTO are selling their "Business 500" for £29.99 AND it has a contention of 20:1 - if so, they are using their monopoly as incumbent to take an unfair advantage in the market place.
I doubt they are doing this somehow 'cos OFTEL (teethless thoguh they sometimes are) would come down on 'em like a ton of the proverbials

It will be 50:1 - I promise you!
We do our 50:1 for £29.99 for the frog (£150 setup) and £34.99 for Alcatel 4 port ethernet router (£250 setup)
Just ask yourself if you want the BTO aftermarket support! If you are a business, get yourself a business ISP. I am not here to advertise so will not post who I work for

Then that's a pretty good price
One other option I don't know if you have loked into for your ISDN colleague is wires only. Most ISP's charge more monthly charge when you get harware as well as an increased setup fee.
I think our wires only is £25/month plus £60 set up. This would save you £60/year on rental and £25 on set up. You can then use the £85 to spec your own router and get a decent one...just a thought
Ps. ISDN to ADSL has a ten day lead time (ananlogue to ADSL is five) but if the line is unsuitable, BT leave it as ISDN and there is no charge
