Dot Matrix Printers - still the best option for accounts department?
#1
I've been asked to replace an ageing dot matrix printer in the accounts dept, but looking around various models they all seem pretty slow (516cps)
I was wondering, specifically for payslips and statements, if there was a better alternative ?
For example, does anyone use lasers for these tasks ?

We have quite a few customers using lasers of various speeds and ratings for payslips, statements, invoices etc.
Can look more professional as it's nice and sharp.
What sort of budget have you got? How many users? Pages per month printed?

Ah, fairly small then.
An HP LJ2200 is rated at 40,000 pages per month, the LJ4100 at 150,000 pages.
I'd check your software stationery templates etc can be switched to laser forms and bin the old DMP.
I've always been glad to switch a site to laser - no more poncing around trying to line up forms so the DMP is aligned etc.

Interesting:
Pre-printed statements £0.03 per page (dot matrix)
Pre-printed payslips £0.02 per slip (dot matrix)
A4 paper £0.005 per page (laser)
The pre-printed stuff includes 2 copies, so we'd have to print 2 copies of A4, but even then we'll make quite a saving.
Not rure about printer ribbons compared to laser print cartridge costs. Will check it out. But it looks like we'll be ditching the naff fot matrix and getting a duplex laser!

Lasers are much better
We have several high speed dot matrix and when they jam its a nighmare
A laser will also tell you when its about to run out of toner with the dot matrix I have found that the last batch printed off were blank

Although lasers certainly have advantages, you should check, before spending, that it is acceptable to all levels of your organization (and even external auditors). Some people can be extremely picky and will not accept that the second copy printed on a laser is a true and accurate duplicate in the same way that they accept the copy made using multi part paper and an impact printer.
