We have a printer that's connected to our network with an HP JetDirect box. This has an old (ie not this LAN) address in it, but I don't know what it is.

How can I find/change the IP address of the box remotley to a specific address for this LAN? The person who know how to configure these things is on holiday.

Any help?

Press the test button and the print will have existing IP. Power off, wait a few seconds, power on and hold the test button for about 3 seconds. The jet direct will pick up an IP from your DHCP server. Run a test print off to make sure the IP has changed. Now Telnet on using the new IP.

What? You mean I have to walk down to the office and interact with the equipment physically? I was hoping just to do it over the network . I try to avoid any user cantact as much as possible

Our printers are supposed to be using reserved IPs. How do you program these things???

Easiest thing is to d/load the JetDirect s/ware from the website, install & let that find the details of the machine for you. Then use the inbuilt webserver to change the settings.

I re-set it and d/l the HP web jetadmin s/w. I had already set a new reservation* in DHCP. Got it working now...

* This word reminded me of this joke...

Newly married husband and wife arrive at a posh hotel for their honeymoon. The Receptionist says to the man "Do you have a reservation?". To which the man replies, "Yes, she won't take it up the ***".

I thank you...
