hifolks

trying to get messenger to connect via our usual ISP dial up connection - and no luck whatsoever

We canm access email, Internet and our FTP but cannot get messenger to connect.

Any experts out there care to make some suggestions?

How do you dial-up? Single PC, networked machine etc?

Which ISP?

the pc we're using for this is a standalone and not connected to the rest of the network, ISP is freeserve 24/7 I believe

Is the logon account a @hotmail.com one?

yeah its a hotmail one, the MSN warning says it cannot connect to the .net services and asks if we're connected to the internet - which we are.

odd one this.

no errors from msn just the cannot connect to net services job.

yeah, its a hotmail.com address

I've been having the same problem intermitantly since using my new PC. I'm running ZoneAlarm, but am still running ZoneAlarm when it does decide to work. A windoze reboot sorts it for me.
Running an Athlon 1.9+ system, ISP is Freeserve Hometime (free offpeak), Windows XP, running ZoneAlarm and AVG Antivirus.

Oh, and I get the same "check you're connected to the 'net" error message, it's a standalone machine, MSN 4.6.

Using a proxy?? Check the conections under tools>options

make sure your date and time is correct as msn uses this during the login process.

folks - sorted it - user = ID10T - had Zonealarm running in the background and it was stopping MSNM reaching out.

thanks for the help tho.

So now its running who else is using it?
