Hi All,

I jointly look after an NT server, one process running on it is a "Broadbase server" process that stops and then restarts at 1am or there abouts.

However, it occasionally fails to restart. So when I come in I have to restart in manually(which works fine).

Does anyone have a clue why this happens, and also is this the fault of the Application - in this case Broadbase(an anylitics package for those who care ) or is this an NT issue.

thanks for any suggestions

Application Fault..

Simple as that...

I wrote a service for ensuring services stay running.... ie it restarts them if they stop if you want a copy?

Incidently check to see if you are running any virus scans / backups at startup... also use filemon (sysinternals) to monitor the file and see what process has it open, you could then use pskill and kill the offending process...

Also just to be on the safe side, schedule a chkdsk for next reboot.

cheers guys, unfortunately I cant put any other software on the box without some rediculous approval procedure - I help look after it for a major UK bank and they have very tight procedures....

there is a backup that runs every night - done by the ISP using legato - but this should be finished in plenty of time.

The problem is that this is a sporadic problem, only happends once a month..

cheers

In that case, have you got a support contract with whoever makes the software, as if you cant change owt without approval then you would know if you had changed anything on the box, therefore the fault is with the 3rd party software!
