Some older ethernet is 10mbps (megabits per sec) and the more common ethernet these days is 100mbps. 10/100 on network cards, hubs and switches etc means they can deal with either speed, most are autosensing too.
If your NIC is 10/100 that will mean that you are running CAT5 cabling probably, the speed at the other end will be determined by the port on the other end.
e.g Hub only runs at 10-Base-T then you will only get 10Mbps
